MIL-STD810 C/D/E

Builtto meet or exceed the requirements of the U.S. MIL-STD810 C/D/E standards, the VX-160 is designed to surviveunder difficult operating conditions of shock, vibration, and driving rain. Cost-performance begins with durability, and the Mil-Spec toughness of the VX-160 is your guaranteeor its design quality.

SUPERRUGGED CONSTRUCTION

Housedinside a high-impact case, the diecast chassis ofthe VX-160 provides a solid, rugged foundation forthe VX-160's circuitry. Built to survive in the realworld of factory, construction site, or fleet use,the VX-160 will provide many years of reliable communications.

8-CHARACTERALPHANUMERIC DISPLAY
Providingindication of either the channel number or an AlphanumericChannel Label of up to 8 characters, the LCD displayalso providesconvenient operation function icons to provide instantrecognition of radio status.
3PROGRAMMABLE OPERATING FUNCTION KEYS
Customizationof feature access is easily accomplished at the timeof programming. Flexibility in assignment of featuresensures compatibility with existing system requirements.
CTCSS/ DCS ENCODE + DECODE

High-performanceEncoder/Decoder circuits for both CTCSS and DigitalCode Squelch are provided, for access to tone/codecontrolled systems.
DCS is ideal for crowded RF environments, providingsuperior immunity from false opening of squelch.

DTMFANI

TheVX-160 includes a DTMF Automatic Number Identifier(ANI) circuit, which will respond to an incoming ANIburst for selective paging of an individual portable.

5-TONESIGNALLING SYSTEM

Theradio has built in capability to encode
and decode 5,6 or 7 tone selective calling
codes in 11 different tone formats.
Features such as Stun/kill/revive and
emergency modes are supported.

DUAL2-TONE DECODE

Thisbuilt in feature allows you to decode up to two, 2-tonepairs per channel.
These can be used for two individual pager calls,or one for Individual and
one for Group call.

VERSATILESCANNING FEATURES

Thehigh-speed scanning capability of the VX-160 includes"All-Channel" scanning, plus Dual Watchand Priority Channel capability. And with "Follow-Me"scanning, a designated channel may be watched duringscanning of other channels.

ARTS™(Auto Range Transponding System)

includedin ine VX-160 is Vertex Standard's exclusive ARTS™feature,
which can be critically important in search-and-rescueapplications. ARTS™ provides a "hand-shake"with other ARTS™-equipped transceivers, and thedisplay indicates if an "Out of Range" conditionexists. The base station can then alert the fieldunit to move to a better location.

TX/RXBATTERY SAVER CIRCUIT

Tomaximize battery life, the VX-160 includes both transmit-and receive-
mode battery savers. On transmit, the portable willreduce power when the
incoming signal is very strong. On receive, the radiowill put itself into a
pulsing "sleep" mode, periodically checkingfor channel activity.

PCPROGRAMMING

Thechannel and feature configurations are easily programmedin minutes
by the dealer, using the optional CT-42A ProgrammingCable and CE44
Programming Software.

RADIOTO RADIO CLONE FEATURE

Forquick programming of VX-160 radios for fleet use,the "Clone" feature
allows copying of all channel and other configurationdata from one VX-160
to another, using the optional CT-27 Cloning Cable.

500mW AUDIO OUTPUT

Idealfor reception in noisy environments, the VX-160'shigh-powered audio
is coupled to a large internal speaker, assuring solidcopy throughout difficult
construction site or field operations.

BCLO,BTLO, AND TOT
Tofacilitate efficient channel management, the VX-160provides Busy Channel Lock-Out (BCLO) and Busy ToneLock-Out (BTLO) features. What's more, the transmitter'sTime-Out Timer (TOT) function prevents a "stuckmicrophone" condition from jamming a channel foran extended period of time.
